You are a hero! Man ... that was a good memory. Too bad, at that age, we do not realize that life's pleasures are sometimes measured in moments.

What a fantastic story! Nostalgia is often bittersweet ... but mostly sweet.
I love your romantic heart.

There's probably a Cathy and a Jay in everyone's memory of 8th grade. There is in mine. Plus hardons and farting armpits.

I love this story about young love! It reminds me of all kinds of moments from junior high school (that was where we were sectioned off in my area).

I remember spending both years of jr. high madly in love with bryan k. he had brown eyes, and wore all these different Swatch watches (sometimes two at a time!) and loved basketball. So I became fascinated with Swatch watches and basketball and of course brown eyes. I never had my seventh-inning-stretch moment with him, but I made up for it later (naughty laugh...)!

Little did she know she passed up the chance to go out with a guy who'd be doing a porn star later. Although, in 8th grade, I wonder if that'd be impressive or utterly icky.

This story's so good that Cathy Dinwiddle gave me a boner, too! (I'm a monster, I admit it, but I was in the 8th grade once, too, you know!)

Too bad it didn't last a little while longer.

Blue Girl - You know, I've thought about you and Brad singing such a romantic song together, and I'm guessing it was a transcendant and moving experience. I'll bet your schoolgirl heart was filled, and I wish you more such moments.

Blue Girl - Yes, it's a miracle that any of us survive the "upbringing" we get from our harried, inexperienced parents. We would have done better on our own, eh? Except for the food. They were good at getting food. And clothes. And shelter, come to think of it. I never slept under the bridge. OK, I take it all back.
(Tip to new parents: If you want your son to score early and often, name him "Brad.")

Sorry you were shoved out of the house so early. Bummer. But, you survived!

Ahhh. 8th grade love. I remember it well. I still go all atwitter thinking of Brad Anderson. Loved him from 5th - 9th grade. (Only reason it ended in 9th grade was because we moved away) And my first kiss was at an 8th grade party. And it was Brad, of course. But, he didn't love me the way I loved him. One time we sang "Weekend In New England" together in a choir concert. Boy. What memories.

Hey! You know, now that you've dredged all of this up again, moving a kid into a new snooty school at the beginning of their sophmore year is extremely unfair, too.

If only because I was leaving Brad behind...

Last night, I waved goodbye
Now--it seems years
I'm back in the city
Where nothing is clear
But thoughts of me --holding you
Bringing us near
And tell me
When will our eyes meet
When can I touch you
When will this strong yearning end
And when
Will I hold you again
