If you haven’t seen it yet, I would recommend watching a documentary I just saw called “Why We Fight”… very interesting. Although he was racist and sexist, I gained some additional respect for Eisenhower after watching it (I knew he was the first to publicly use the phrase “military-industrial complex”, but had never actually seen any part of the speech in which he had used it before)

Brave and brazen! But it probably won’t help. Most Americans are like Bush and would prefer the pretense of being World-beaters and the saviors of millions. It is all hooey, but it always is hooey.

I’m ashamed of myself, for letting things go this far, and doing so little to help.

Well, really what are you supposed to do about it?

I understand your frustration. My nephew went and joined the Marines. He is in basic now. I tried to talk him out of it to no avail. I think the only group of people who can stop the war are the kids. Once they stop joining, the war ends. No matter what though, we will pay for this deal in Iraq for decades. You can mostly, though not totally blame George Bush.

There’s more blame to go around though…this is also a Democratic party war, and it is a war brought on by the press.
